The Drill of the Week
These drills are going to be designed to be completed at home and are completely optional! However, we would love to see pictures of the girls doing the drills! Please send them to: [email protected]
Week of April 24: Wall Ball
This drill is very effective for simulating short hops and different bounces. It will help to develop fielding fundamentals, hand-eye coordination, and reaction time.
Use a tennis ball (or another bouncy ball) and a safe wall. To begin, throw the ball yourself towards the bottom of the wall. Focus on soft hands and working TOWARDS the ball. This drill can be completed with or without the glove.
Modifications:
These modifications are effective (and should be practiced)
for softball players of ALL ages and abilities.
-
After fielding the short hop, work the feet and hands to a throwing position
-
Change the heights of the short hops, focus on glove position to minimize the time to the throwing shoulder
-
Have a partner throw multiple balls over your shoulder in fast succession varying the bounce. The fielder should be set to the wall and will not see the release of the ball, they will only react to it.
-
NO glove, have a partner throw two balls over each shoulder. Catch a ball in each hand.
