Drill of the Week

These drills are designed to be completed at home and are completely optional!  However, we would love to see pictures of the girls doing the drills!  Please send them to: [email protected].

The Drill of the Week - 4/10

Five Ball Challenge

The purpose of this drill is to improve our hand-eye coordination and glove mechanics while fielding ground balls.  This is a drill that will be effective for every athlete in our program regardless of age.
1) Select any five balls that you may have in your home.  Please make them as varied as possible and safe to work without a glove.  For example, tennis balls, foam balls, wiffle balls, any “soft” ball, indoor snowballs, dryer balls, tightly rolled socks
2) Starting on the knees with the glove hand in front of the body, throw ground balls.
3) Focus on the fielders triangle.   Hands should be in front of the body, inline with the belly button.  Fingertips should be pointing to the ground, thumb up to the sky.  It is very important that they field the ball with their palms facing the tosser and not the ground!
4) Take ground balls in this position for 5 minutes a day!

Modifications:
1) Throw different types of bounces (appropriate for balls being used)
2) Focus on the hands prepping the ball to the throwing side
3) Move to forehands and backhands
4) After the initial 5 minutes, work for a couple more minutes with a glove while focusing on the same fundamentals.
