FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Recreation Softball

What equipment do I have to buy?
RSA provides each team with all necessary equipment such as balls, bats, shared helmets, bases, catcher's gear and a tee. We ask all parents to provide their player with a glove to use. Parents may wish to purchase personal helmets, bats, or catching equipment for your child, but should check with the respective manager to ensure that such items are approved for play within the respective league and division. It is recommended that younger infielders and pitchers wear face masks. Cleats (no metal) are necessary for play but players in T-Ball and Farm levels can wear just sneakers.

When are practices and games?
Practice days and times are determined by field and coach availability. If you already know there are specific days that you cannot attend practices, please write it in the comment section during registration and we will do our best to place your daughter on a team that does not practice on those days. Games are scheduled throughout the week for all of our different levels but we try to schedule games on practices days depending on registration numbers and how many teams are formed. RSA schedules games when the team is available but we cannot accommodate everyone's schedules.

Will my children be on the same team?
If your children are within the same age division, we will automatically assign them to the same team unless it is requested otherwise by the parent.

Can my child be on the same team as her friends?

We will try our best to accommodate such requests at the lower levels (Farm and T-Ball). We are aware that this may be the first time your child is joining a team, and at that age the transition may be easier if  your child already knows some teammates. However, under certain circumstances, it can be difficult to accommodate all team requests when their are numerous demands for specific teammates.  Our policy is to accommodate as many such requests as possible for the Farm and T-Ball Divisions only. We cannot guarantee success in all instances.

Do you accept late registrations?
Yes, however, there will be a late fee and we cannot guarantee a specific team placement.

My daughter has grown out of some of her equipment, do you take donated softball equipment?
If you have softball equipment that is in good condition that your daughter has grown out of or just doesn't use anymore, please consider donating it to the league. To make arrangements, please contact us at [email protected].

Rebels Travel Softball

When are tryouts held for travel?
Tryouts for the spring are held in late July/early August. Tryouts during the summer will start with the fall season and last for the spring and summer seasons.  Make sure you are on our email list or like us on Facebook to get all news and updates about RSA Rebels and tryouts

How are players selected during the tryouts?
Players who attend the tryouts will be evaluated on a variety of skills and assessments will be performed by multiple evaluators however, no parents or coaches will evaluate.  All scores and player rankings will remain confidential.  The RSA board and coaches will review all player ranking and will select the players for each team.

How will teams be formed?
Teams will be organized based upon the number of participants. Past travel players cannot expect to remain on the same team with the same coaching staff every year.  All Rebels teams will be selected based on the player and the program need.

How far do teams travel and what is the time requirement?
Each team’s schedule will vary but typically travel is locally around Northern NJ. Time commitment will vary based on the age of the player and team. However, you can expect that weekends will be included along with a couple of days during the week.

Can a travel softball player participate in other sports throughout the year?

Yes, and it is encouraged during the off-season. However, travel players are expected to be fully committed to the travel softball team during the spring season.

How much playing time will a player get?
In travel softball, playing time for each player will depend on several variables including but not limited to: attitude, ability, performance at practice and games, and hustle. There is no guaranteed playing time or batting order. The Head Coach makes all decision on playing time.

Can my daughter keep the same jersey number every year?
We cannot guarantee jersey numbers will remain the same every year. Depending on team placement, there is chance players might have duplicate jersey numbers.  Preference will be given to the play who has been in the program longer and has seniority with that number.  If both players cannot agree on who gets the number, both players will have to forfeit the number.

For this reason, RSA suggests when ordering apparel parents should do not get the jersey number added. Choosing to add the jersey number to any of the apparel you order is a personal choice and RSA will not be responsible if the jersey number must change. It cannot be used as a reason to keep your current jersey number.
