These drills are going to be designed to be completed at home and are completely optional! However, we would love to see pictures of the girls doing the drills! Please send them to: [email protected]
Week of April 17: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall
Mirror drills offer athletes a unique perspective of any skill. Not only can they feel it, but see it as well. This drill will not only help with the fundamentals of hitting, but helps athletes improve and develop body awareness.
For safety reasons: DO NOT use an actual bat in or around mirrors. You can use a small wiffle ball bat, a paper towel roll to signify the handle, a kitchen towel, a swiffer duster, or the top handle of a swiffer just to name a few. The batter could also link top hand pinky with the bottom hand index finger.
-
Set your stance (go through the checklist) and check position
-
Swing, check, and adjust
-
Hit your dream pitch, three perfect swings in a row
Modifications:
-
Hit the a dial pad (see image below)
-
Hit the dial pad and freeze at the contact point
-
Swing on your non-dominant side and focus on correcting the skill of hitting
-
Take the mirror outside (if possible), and use a real bat to swing at game speed
Batting Stance Checklist:
A couple of easy points that should always be looked for in their stance:
- Feet outside of the hips
- Knees inside feet
- Hands at shoulder height, bat at 45⁰
- Arms bent (into an ‘A’ or house)
- Head turned towards pitcher
Remember, you cannot hit, what you cannot see!

If you move to contact points...for the younger players it might be beneficial to add a mark on the wall (we used painters tape)
